I hate searching the depths of my pocketbook for my cell phone everytime it rings or frantically trying to find my wallet under the snack traps and diaper wipes. So I was quite pleased to find something to solve this daily annonyance....a clever purse organizer.
It's the same idea as a crayon roll or knitting needle roll. You just make pockets for items you keep in your purse: keys, wallet, sunglasses, pen, lip balm etc.
Then you roll it up and tuck it in your purse.
I'm happy to report that it actually works. Everything has been quite organized as long as I remember to slip things back in their pockets. I think this works best for shallow i.e. not very deep pocketbooks. The tutorial is here at Crafster and I see that Cassie has made one too (photographed about a billion times better I might add!!) And I've added it to Colorfool's Quick Crafts Flickr group. Hmm, I'm very linky today, aren't I?
The sad news is that it killed my sewing machine. Little bastard. All the stitches skip now whenever I sew. I've changed needles, re-threaded...I don't know what to do. Anyone ever had this problem? Sniff.
And lastly, what is a trackback? Should I accept them? And where would I send them?

The fabric you used is so so pretty. I keep stuffing things in a smaller purse just so I think I'll be able to find things easier.
Skipped stitches, ah I hate that. I can't tell you how many times I kept sewing on that scrap of fabric when my last sewing machine died. Sewing and yelling "you can't still be doing this". Sorry.

Have you tried adjusting the tension? I would also redo the bobbin, clean out the place where the bobbin goes and possibly even oil your machine if its been a while. My manual has instructions for where to oil it. It also has a troubleshooting guide in the back that lists skipped stitches. (I would run upstairs and look but I'm currently injured.) Its probably not dead. Here's a site that might help: http://sewandserge.com/tshoot.asp
Ps. Your purse roll is a really good idea. Your purse is really pretty.

I don't know a whole lot about newer machines, but on my old one I've had a similar problem a couple of times and it required buying a new bobbin case. About $10. Your organizer is very clever...despite it's evil doings!

Your organizer is so pretty and practical. I think I need one of those!
About your machine, my first thoughts are the needle, tension, and cleaning/oiling. If none of those work, then haul her into the shop.

When my sewing machine starts acting up, it's usually time for a good cleaning. Kindly, my husband blows out the lint with his air compressor and oils it for me. Worst case, it's in for repairs.
I've been meaning to make one of those purse organizers for some time--looks great. And I really love your purse!

Thanks guys for the advice! I'm off to buy some oil, compressed air and to learn more about tension. The purse is Old Navy; can you believe it?! The organizer fabric is vintage.

I love the purse--wow, old navy. And the organizer is a great idea--especially since i'm still carrying around a glorified diaper bag with a whole wealth of contents!
My sewing machine did something similar (just in time for christmas). All it needed was a tune up/service at my sewing machine repair shop. I think i paid $35 for the repairs. good luck!!

Great little organizer. Crayon roll for mommys!
My machine was doing similar things. I took the bobbin all apart, cleaned it, changed the needle and re threaded it all and now it is working...mostly. ?

Yeah, what is a trackback and what in the world does anyone do with them?

Great fabric you've used. I might have to try that nifty holder thingy.
